Tereza Štětinová’s exhibition Snakes Eating Tails addresses the topic of childhood heroism and the endless inner world where this heroism takes place. When do we lose our faith in our dreams coming true? When is that moment we cease to be children, capable of having absolute faith in ourselves, and become sceptical adults, who often give preference to be led by their heads rather than their hearts? In 1979, from the pen of German author Michael Ende, was created a boy, Bastian Balthazar Bux, who, through his own ability to dream, was able to save the empire of Fantasy with a single grain of sand that had resisted the impact of Nothingness. This boy named the child empress of the Fantasy empire by the name of this deceased mother.

In the exhibition, Snakes Eating Tails we are introduced not only to child bravery and heroism, but also to the caring and protective maternal archetype in the form of a pre-teen empress that governs the entire empire. Fantasy is just as beautiful and fragile as the young soul in which anything is possible. At least until the moment when hope and faith start to be pushed away by fear and scepticism, and our dreams begin to slowly fall apart into nothingness.
Look into the eyes of your daughter, where you will find courage that is hers, as well as yours.
During the life cycle, we gradually switch from role to role. We are child heroes. We are mothers. We are mothers of chid heroes that we have to let ride dangerous wild horses into the dark Marshes of sadness, in order for them to experience their adventure and mature. And finally… for them to find the courage to do what they wish.
