Time-Based Media: a field of work that refers to any art form that uses technology to create and present art involving a timeline. Most often, this is art created by using video, sound and digital media.
This exhibition will introduce a selection of works by students and graduates of the TBM studio, which has been active at the Faculty of Art and Design of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem since 2009 under the direction of Daniel Hanzlík and Pavel Mrkus.
The works represented in this exhibition at the Jelení Gallery cover a wide range of topics, from personal confessions (Lucie Kolečkářová), through mathematical and algorithmic processes (Vojtěch Groot, Jan Poš), the exploration of time (Vojtěch Radovský), all the way to environmental issues of the critical ecosystem in Northwest Bohemia, where the studio is located (David Mirský). The work Space Junk (Karim Tarakji) is based on a drawing generated by the trajectories of space debris in the orbit. The sound work created in the studio is characteristic for its field recording processes, its relationship to specific sound environments and sound ecology (Jindřich Jandečka, Iva Polanecká and Martin Marek, Polina Khatsenka). Performative actions such as videomapping or AV performances are represented in the form of documentation (František Pecháček, Petr Hanžl). Although, at first glance, the individual artists and their creative processes may appear very diverse, they are united by their natural desire to get close to the otherwise inaccessible abyss, through the form of art.
